Bangabandhu Biopic

For the first time, a film is being made on the life and work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the best Bengali of the millennium, the father of the nation of Bangladesh. The film, a joint venture between the governments of Bangladesh and India, is a unique gift for the Bengali nation and the world. Many known and unknown things of the Bangabandhu family, the father of Bengali nationalism, have been revealed in this film.

‘Tati’ has been added to the costume department of the most awaited desire of Bengalis. ‘Tati’ is proud and honored to have the opportunity to revive the weaving industry, one of the cherished traditions and culture of Bengal and Bengalis, through this eminent work.

‘Tati’ tried to give a renewed look to the characters by combining the designs, colors and tastes of the handloom sari with the time of history. The ‘Tati’ family has tried its best to that end.

After the release of this film internationally, ‘Tati’ will open the sarees for all customers and well-wishers.

‘Tati’ family is sincerely grateful to BFDC and NFDC for giving chance to collaborate with this magnificent work in the history of Bangladesh.

In the biopic about the life and work of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the costume section has been given importance along with all other arrangements to bring that time to life on the screen.

Bangabandhu’s all-time associate, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib’s sari has played a big role in portraying her character on screen. The white woven sari wrapped around Bangamata is synonymous with unvarnished Bengal.

Milky White, Off White or Kora cotton (in the language of weavers) is a reflection of a simple life, as if the future of Bangladesh was written on every weave. The hand-woven sarees were a reflection of the unpretentious life of the President and later the wife of the Prime Minister of independent Bengal. Their worthy daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has also maintained that trend.

After being involved in arranging costumes for Bangabandhu Biopic, the biggest challenge for ‘Tati’ was to know the real mode of Bangamata’s sarees. The color and design of the original sarees have faded over time. After collecting from the archives of the Bangabandhu family and observing them closely, ‘Tati’ was able to complete the work with the help of experts.

It is to be noted that the costumes of this film, which is a joint production of India and Bangladesh, were first attempted to make in Mumbai, but later the weaving was done in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of independent Bangladesh, had a varied and colorful personality. He was unique in his own way of dress, as well as in the quality of his personality.

From an absolute Bengali ordinary to the fashionable head of state, his clothes have changed on the basis of Place, Time and Occasion. Outside of the world leader, he is a true householder, head of the family; in the serenity of contentment in enjoying the company of her loved ones, it has come to the fore again and again.

In lungi and inner (sandoganji), Bangabandhu repeatedly reminds us of the general form of the Bengali middle-class family head. The clothes of the majority of the working people of the country were his own. Bangabandhu has been seen at various times in his favorite check lungi. Even on the terrible night of 15th August, Bangabandhu was wearing that lungi. That picture of Bangabandhu has been last seen in the minds of Bengalis.

‘Tati’ has been given the responsibility of preparing and supplying the check lungi of his choice to the biopic of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu. ‘Tati’ has tried to show the heart of the weaving industry to the audience with all his creativity. ‘Tati’ family is proud and happy to be involved in a film made in honor of Bangabandhu, the maker of development and prosperity of our native weaving and textile industry.

হাজার বছরের শ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙালি, বাংলাদেশের জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের জীবন ও কর্ম নিয়ে প্রথমবারের মত তৈরি হচ্ছে চলচ্চিত্র। বাংলাদেশ ও ভারত সরকারের যৌথ উদ্যোগে নির্মিত হওয়া এই চলচ্চিত্র বাঙালি জাতি তথা পুরো পৃথিবীর জন্য এক অনন্য উপহার।বাঙালি জাতীয়তাবাদের জনক বঙ্গবন্ধু পরিবারের জানা ও অজানা অনেক কথাই প্রকাশ পেয়েছে এই চলচ্চিত্রে।

কোটি বাঙালির দীর্ঘদিনের এই অভিপ্রায়ে পোশাক বিভাগে যুক্ত হয়েছে ‘তাঁতি’। বাংলা ও বাঙালির লালিত ঐতিহ্য এবং সংষ্কৃতিরঅন্যতম ধারক তাঁত শিল্পকে এই মহান কর্মের মাধ্যমে সবার সামনে পুনরুজ্জীবিত করার সুযোগ পেয়ে ‘তাঁতি’ গর্বিত এবং সম্মানিত।

আন্তর্জাতিকভাবে এই চলচ্চিত্রটি মুক্তির পর তাঁতি সকল গ্রাহক ও শুভানুধ্যায়ীদের জন্য শাড়িগুলো উন্মুক্ত করবে।

বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসের এই মহত্তম কর্মের সাথে যুক্ত করার জন্য তাঁতি পরিবার বিএফডিসি ও এনএফডিসি’র নিকট আন্তরিকভাবে কৃতজ্ঞ।

জাতির পিতা বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানেরজীবন ও কর্ম নিয়ে নির্মিত বায়োপিকে সেই সময়কে পর্দায় ফুটিয়ে তুলতে অন্যান্য সকল আয়োজনের সাথে গুরুত্ব দেয়া হয়েছে পোশাক ও অঙ্গসজ্জায়।

বঙ্গবন্ধুর সব সময়ের সহযোগী বঙ্গমাতা বেগম ফজিলাতুন্নেসা মুজিব এর চরিত্র পর্দায় চিত্রায়নে বড় ভূমিকা পালন করেছে তাঁর ব্যবহৃত শাড়ি। বঙ্গমাতার গায়ে জড়ানো সেই সাদা তাঁতের শাড়ি যেন নির্মোহ বাঙলার সমার্থক। সাদামাটা জীবনের প্রতিচ্ছবি মিল্কি হোয়াইট বা অফ হোয়াইট, তাঁতিদের ভাষায় কোড়া কটনের শাড়িগুলোর প্রতিটি বুননে যেন লেখা হয়েছিল আগামী বাংলাদেশের ভবিষ্যৎ। রাষ্ট্রপতি এবং পরবর্তিতে স্বাধীন বাঙলার প্রাধানমন্ত্রীর স্ত্রী হয়েও অনাড়ম্বর জীবনের প্রতিচ্ছবি ছিলো হাতে বুনানো সেই শাড়িগুলো। সেই ধারা বজায় রেখেছেন তাঁর সুযোগ্য কন্যা প্রধনামন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনাও।

বঙ্গবন্ধু বায়োপিকে পোশাক আয়োজনে যুক্ত হওয়ার পর ‘তাঁতি’র জন্য সবচেয়ে বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ ছিল বঙ্গমাতার শাড়িগুলোর প্রকৃত ধরণ জানা। সময় পরিক্রমায় এবং ঘটনাপ্রবাহে আসল শাড়িগুলোর রঙ এবং নকশা ম্লান হয়েছে। বঙ্গবন্ধু পরিবারের আর্কাইভ থেকে সংগ্রহ করে নিগূঢ়ভাবে পর্যবেক্ষণের পরবিশেষজ্ঞ ব্যক্তিদের সহায়তায় ‘তাঁতি’ কাজটি সম্পন্ন করতে সমর্থ হয়।

উল্লেক্ষ্য যে, ভারত ও বাংলাদেশের যৌথ প্রযোজনায় চিত্রিত এই চলচ্চিত্রের পোশাক প্রথমে মুম্বাইতে তৈরির চেষ্টা হলেও পরবর্তীতে তাঁতের বুনন বাংলাদেশেই করা হয়েছে।

স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের পিতা শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের ব্যক্তি সত্তা ছিল বৈচিত্রময় ও বর্ণাঢ্য। ব্যক্তিবৃত্তের পরিসীমার পরতে সংযোজিত গুণাবলির সাথে সাথে তাঁর পোশাক-আশাকে তিনি ছিলেন নিজস্ব সত্তায় অনন্য।

একেবারে আটপৌরে বাঙালি থেকে কেতাদুরস্ত রাষ্ট্রপ্রধান - স্থান, কাল আর উপলক্ষবিশেষে বদল হয়েছে তাঁর পোশাক।বিশ্বনেতার বাইরে তিনি একজন সত্যিকারের গৃহকর্তা, পরিবারপ্রধান; তাঁর পোশাকে, বাৎসল্যে, আপনজনের সান্নিধ্য উপভোগে পরিতৃপ্তির প্রশান্তিতে সেটা বারবার ফুটে উঠেছে।

লুঙ্গি আর স্যান্ডোগেঞ্জিতে বঙ্গবন্ধু আমাদের বারবারই বাঙালি মধ্যবিত্তের পরিবারপ্রধানেরসাধারণ রূপ মনে করিয়ে দেয়। দেশের সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠ খেটে খাওয়া মানুষের পোশাক ছিল তার একান্ত আপন।বঙ্গবন্ধুকে নানা সময়ে দেখা গেছে তাঁর প্রিয় চেক লুঙ্গিতে। এমনকি ভয়াল ১৫ই অগাস্ট রাত্রেও বঙ্গবন্ধুর পরনে ছিল সেই লুঙ্গি। বঙ্গবন্ধুর যে ছবি বাঙালির মানসপটে শেষ দেখা হয়ে আছে।

জাতির জনক বঙ্গবন্ধুর বায়োপিকে তাঁর পরিধেয় সেই পছন্দের চেক লুঙ্গি প্রস্তুত ও সরবরাহের দায়িত্ব পেয়েছে তাঁতি। তাঁতি চেষ্টা করেছে সৃষ্টিশীলতার সমস্তটা দিয়ে তাঁত শিল্পের অন্তঃকরণ দর্শকের সামনে তুলে ধরতে।

আমাদের দেশীয় তাঁত ও বস্ত্রশিল্পের উন্নয়ন ও সমৃদ্ধির কারিগর বঙ্গবন্ধুর সম্মানে নির্মিত হওয়া এমন চলচ্চিত্রে যুক্ত হতে পেরে ‘তাঁতি’ পরিবার গর্বিত ও আনন্দিত।
